LAFF: Public Enemies

Public Enemies premiere photos on FlickrWhat am I doing awake?! I have to get up for work in a few hours, but because I had such a great time at the Public Enemies, I just couldn't wait to edit and post the photos, so here I am.

But before I start talking about some cool stuff that went down at the premiere, I just want to say a quick thing about the graphic on the left, the Johnny graphic. Personally, I wanted to put up another photo (there were these two beautiful actresses there, one I was expecting – and was so excited to get to see – and the other one was completely unexpected... I had to stop drooling and force myself to take pictures before she walked away, haha) but I chose this Johnny one because he looks pretty tight in it and I figured that since he's the star, he should be the graphic. Oh, and just for the record, I wanted to either put Leelee Sobieski or Rosario Dawson as the graphic (Rosario Dawson was the surprise). Both are absolutely stunning and are well represented in the galley, of course, haha.

So, judging by the photo to the left, I can safely say I learned a lot from the It Might Get Loud mishap on Friday and I think I took amazingly better photos (almost 1,200 in 90 minutes!). Granted they're still not perfect, but they sure are an improvement over Friday's monstrosities. The daylight helped the photos, and so too did me quickening up the shutter speed (by pumping the ISO if natural light didn't help). Unfortunately though, that meant I had to drop down the aperture and my telephoto lens isn't too great so it gets a little fuzzy if it's under f/5.6 at any length. But I am proud of my photos, I can safely say.

Now, this red carpet was at a much more high-profile location than Friday's. They closed the streets down for this one and huge crowds showed. (They did the same for the Transformers premiere from Monday, but I couldn't go to it - but it turns out I did have the credentials to go, my editor didn't tell me about it though until Tuesday, haha. She accidentally glanced over the e-mail and forgot, and that cost me some extra cool photos and $50, ah well! It probably cost her more since no one from the magazine was there to cover it!) But about the crowds, it felt so cool to pass them and get onto the red carpet. Finally, I was the one who was VIP. I wasn't as VIP as Johnny or Christian, but I definitely was above the fans in the crowds, haha. It felt so nice. I did have a little hiccup though while checking in, but all's well that ends well.

The atmosphere was so much different at this premiere. They had set up stands for fans to sit in behind the red carpet and there had to have been 10 times as many photographers. I got second row yet again, but one photographer was nice enough to let me borrow his stool for the premiere (he got in the first row). The one thing that bugged me about the photographers though were how negative and jaded they seemed. First off, every time a fan screamed or yelled, the photographers would lose it too, but in a bad way. One even told the crowd to quiet down. That's not right, they have every right to scream... you photographers should be used to it by now. And it's so sad (to me) how these photographers have gotten so comfortable with the stars that when they don't get the shot they wanted, they'll have no problem showing their frustration to the stars. I on the hand laughed at every opportunity because I was just grateful to be standing there with these people, taking photos of these famous stars as they walked by. Why couldn't the other photographers feel the same? Alright, you didn't get your shot, move on. It's the red carpet, not a studio. I vow to never turn into one of those other photographers, promise.

Actors, on the other hand, are not rude at all, not to anyone but the photographers I mean. When Johnny first arrived, he completely ran in the opposite direction of the red carpet and instead to the crowds standing on the other side of the street. It was quite incredible, so great of him. And both he and Christian went into the crowds to sign autographs after being interviewed by those E! and what not news shows (and by the way, I so think I got on E!, I was in perfect view of the video guy). The actors were great, and it gave me a very nice feeling.

My only regret though was not being able to see the film with all those stars. The premiere was closed to us normal press people, a LA Film Festival rep told me the people who got to see the film had to be formally invited, so there's really no way I could've seen it anyway (though, couldn't Anton have hooked something up for me with Christian?). But it would've been great, red carpet, photographing the stars, and then watching the film with them. It would be perfect.

But enough talk, start looking at the Flickr gallery, found here. There are currently 93 up, but I might add more if I find out the people I'm not including are important (of the 93, I have no idea who maybe four of them are... so that's pretty good, right?). They're ordered in the way I took them, nothing fancy, so you'll have to go near the end if you wanna see the stars. Rosario's last, because she's stunning... I should've put Leelee last too.... Check out the gallery and check out the movie, it's supposed to be really great. Time for bed, folks. Or maybe I'll watch Seven Pounds... that Rosario really did a number on me. Until next time, take care everyone. see u.
